Hamadryas male en train de courrir avec sa troupe, dans une palmeraie. (Papio hamadryas) Parc National d'Awash, Ethiopie. Endemique a la corne de l'Afrique. L'histoire de la photo : Juste trois minutes avant cette image, je me suis retrouvé nez a nez avec un Mamba noir de grande taille, qui s'est dressé devant moi dans les feuilles seches et les jeunes palmiers... Il s'est levé à presque un mètre de hauteur, menaçant, mais je dirais plus curieux qu'irrité, il s'est enfui après quelques secondes de face à face, dans un fracas surprenant. Mon guide-ranger était devant moi, c'est lui qui l'a vu en premier. Armé d'un AK-47, il était pret à faire feu, enfin j'espère... Voila, c'est fait, j'ai rencontré mon cauchemar... en pleine journée ! Brrrr ! Troupeau de buffles d'Afrique traversant un marécage dans les marais de la rivière Linyanti , le soir au coucher du soleil. Ici, une femelle et son jeune. Plus de 2000 buffles ont traversé ce marécage durant une vingtaine de minutes, tous au même endroit. J'ai pris plus de 1200 photos en alternant deux boitiers et deux focales, le temps du transfert du buffer vers la carte mémoire.... Un spectacle unique... Lycaons. Meute composee de 13 individus. Comportement de socialisation après le repos de l'apres-midi, juste avant de repartir en chasse. remarquez les oreilles rabatues des trois individus au centre. Lycaons. Meute composee de 22 individus. En Avril, ils étaient 14, deux femelles étaient pleines. Elles ont eu leurs jeunes en Mai. Puis en Novembre quand je suis revenu, ils étaient 22 au total ! Une meute extrêmement active avec laquelle j'ai passé plus de 10 jours consécutifs, GPS à la main! Le dernier matin, ils ont parcouru 19 km avant de se reposer un peu, puis repartir en fin d'après midi... C'est là où je les ai laissés.... Ils retournaient sur Kwai... Vous avez noté la dentition... Le Lycaon n'est pas herbivore... De ce séjour au Botswana consacré aux Lycaons, je ramène rien moins qu'une première mondiale... Alors RDV dans quelques semaines et/ou quelques mois pour les publications qui vont en découler... Je n'ai pas été très chanceux avec les lions à crinière noire du Kalahari cette année encore. Malgré tous mes efforts, je n'ai pu approcher un clan de lions extrêmement méfiants. Les mâles restent très farouches dans ce secteur du Central Kalahari. Je vais prochainement tenter ma chance dans un autre endroit où les lions sont réputé pour être de vrais monstres... !
